David Lloyd is a self-taught photographer, based in Port Douglas who specialising in underwater & aerial photography. David is lucky enough to call Port Douglas home, where he draws inspiration from the natural beauty of Far North Queensland & the surrounding areas in Australia.

Know around Port Douglas by some people as “The Turtle Guy”, David spends a great deal of his time outside of the studio underwater documenting his experiences with Sea Turtles. Getting up close & personal with wildlife, being patient and getting to know these incredible creatures allows David to capture a range of marine life in their natural environments.

Whilst not underwater, David spends his time capturing long exposure landscapes & aerial photography. The love of nature doesn’t stop when David gets out of the water. Spending time out & about in the wild with birds is one of David’s passions

David’s journey into Underwater photography wasn’t exactly planned…

Falling into photography to service the need to fine art image & print his partners’ artwork, David’s path into photography wasn’t the norm. David & Steph bought their first underwater housing in order to photograph turtles for Stephanie to use as reference images for her artworks.

It wasn’t long before the realisation that the images captured in their underwater encounters were something special.

In 2019, David made the choice to leave behind a lifetime in the hospitality industry. Having worked in restaurants, bars, clubs & pubs, David was a wine buyer, sommelier & licensee. It was time for a sea change, and the camera was the perfect creative outlet to make it happen.

Only a couple of years later, David opened SEA Studio Gallery in April 2021 with his partner Stephanie Elizabeth. You can see their Fine Art & Photography on the walls of their Port Douglas gallery all year round.
